Hitachi to showcase OB van

European debut at IBC 2014 in Amsterdam: Hitachi Kokusai Electric Turkey (HKT) will introduce a new concept in versatile, cost-effective outside broadcast (OB) production facilities (stand 4.A71). In addition, HKT will showcase the company’s broad range of HDTV broadcast system cameras (stand 11.D39).

Hitachi Kokusai Electric Turkey has already delivered several vehicles with a mobile digital production environment and advanced digital satellite news gathering (DSNG) capabilities to Middle Eastern broadcasters (photo). “We believe it will generate considerable interest at IBC and across the EMEA region,” said Cemal Yilmaz, general manager of HKT, according to a press release.

The new vehicle design offers live and mobile production facilities for up to six operators and can withstand arduous environments that experience both extreme heat and cold. The HD production system in the OB van - a Mercedes Sprinter 516 CDI truck – supports eight cameras with a 2-ME, 24-input multi-format live switcher and 34x34 3G/HD/SD router. In addition, two 46-inch monitors are equipped with multi-viewer systems.

A key feature of the HKT mobile production unit is its advanced DSNG capabilities, which are facilitated by the company’s PKM-120 Ku Band Motorized Antenna located on the vehicle’s roof. In addition, a 400W high power amplifier (HPA) is installed within the roof-mounted Antenna Pod in order to avoid extra heat generation in the van. Using HKT`s’ smart operating system, the antenna can be controlled by any smart phone or Wi-Fi tablet.

Also on show at IBC 2014 will be Hitachi’s new Z-HD6000 3MOS sensor production camera together with the company’s high sensitivity, low noise super slow motion SK-HD1500 camera, and other HDTV broadcast system cameras. (8/14)
